Imperial Plans: R.I.P.

Stumble It!

DaimlerChrysler made a bold move earlier this year when they announced that the Imperial, Chrysler’s luxury make/model was to be resurrected and included as the top-of-the-line model for the Chrysler brand. Well, the word is out: the Imperial will not be built after all.

ChryslerCiting pending sharp increases in Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) as mandated by Congress, Chrysler has decided not to start production on a car that would have been built at its Brampton, Ontario facility. Earlier this year, Chrysler won concessions from the Canadian Auto Workers in a bid to bring the model to Brampton, but union officials have been told by Chrysler that the model has been canceled. The model had been in doubt for some time as DaimlerChrysler is also in the process of selling off its Chrysler Group.

Although the Imperial will not go into production, Chrysler has promised that the 300C will be updated and remain in production at Brampton.
