A Matter Of Judgement
Self employment has its benefits as does working for an employer, two very different ways to make a living. With the former, I’m much more independent but with the latter I can depend on someone else to provide the paycheck.
April is a pressure packed month especially if federal and state income taxes have yet to be filed. This year, I did my taxes in February, but when I found out that I would actually owe something, have delayed filing until this month. I will be setting aside some time this Saturday to review my taxes and, if everything looks fine, file them online. If some sort of problem does come up, I have until next Tuesday to finish.
I’m also working on several other deadlines while meeting the requirements of the various taxing authorities. One magazine article was submitted last week with another due on Friday. In addition, I have several blog articles to write and I must answer some email inquiries about my availability plus a few private messages I have held off answering. I’d rather delay a response then to send off a hurried reply only to regret what I have to say later.
Finally, I have pair of new sites to launch, but they won’t see the light of day until after April 15th. Yes, I’m prioritizing my work, making judgment calls on what I should do now and what I can put off. Like something as mundane as whether to leave an “e” in a certain word or not!

I understand what you mean Matt! I’m a little busier than usual also.
I wonder what all that recession talk was about? There certainly seems to be work out there.
Laura, I think a lot of jobs are shifting to those of us who can pick up projects previously done by now laid off staff.
I’m constantly getting inquiries for work, choosing which jobs I should do and which ones I should pass on.
I can’t wait ’till tax season is over though!
I usually hire a chimpanzee to perform such chores.
Yes, April is a busy month. I just filed my income tax too and I can’t wait for some of my clients to release their budget for fiscal year 2008.
Matt,
I am absolutely envious over your comment that you can choose which jobs to do or pass on.
You are doing very well, congrats. I don’t have that luxury at this moment.
Asia’h — I made the mistake of not being selective enough when choosing projects three years ago. Soon, I got dependent on jobs that offered a steady pay, but they weren’t something that would last. The implosion was awful, I have learned my lesson: be picky!
