Back To The Trusty Theme
I’m loathe to switch themes these days, especially with WordPress 2.5’s release being imminent. Some of the themes associated with my many blogs are not likely to pass muster with the next update while others are tired-looking and could use a change.
However, If I were to make updates right now, I might have to quickly make another round of changes once WP 2.5 is online — I really don’t need that kind of extra work right now!
For long time readers of this blog, you’re familiar with the Aquarium theme now featured. I like this theme, but I have moved away from it a few times only to return.
My last theme exchange was necessary because a piece of code I inserted rendered the theme virtually unusable, but I fixed that problem and decided to ditch the most recent theme, Regulus, because one of my regular readers (who has a vision problem) had trouble with it.
When making changes to any theme, I must remember to take a look at how it looks with Internet Explorer as I use Firefox. In addition, I have computer screens with different resolutions and some themes look fine under all conditions, while others do not. I’ve had a rude awakening or two when I discovered a theme that didn’t look quite right with I.E., sometimes many days after installing it.
Usually, if there is a problem with a particular theme, I’ll get a “heads up” from a reader, but that isn’t always the case. Some day I hope to actually pay someone to develop a custom theme for this blog, but that’ll have to wait until after my first royalty check arrives.
Then again, I need to start writing a book!

Why don’t u try out and see how your blog look like in different browser and OS with browsershots
I like your trusty theme, Matt. It looks good and is easy to read.
When you get around to writing that book, I can recommend an editor for you.
A’siah: Thank you so much for sharing the link. I had no idea that this page existed.
Lillie: If I ever do write a book, I certainly will use you as my editor. Don’t sit by the phone waiting, however, as I’m not book-minded just yet!
For a minute there I was wondering if I’d landed on the wrong blog.
(That’s what I get for not visiting the Article Writer in three years).
I dread the next Wordpress upgrade. I’m like a stick of dynamite mucking around the back end of my blog. There have been a few explosions.
I finally resorted to paying people to do stuff to my blogs here and there. But you know what? It’s not even worth it, I don’t think. I don’t know a single web geek or designer who isn’t backlogged with work from here to kingdom come.
What’s a girl to do?
I can sympathize as I just changed my theme and noticed several incompatibilities as well. I had some widget issues too. Lord knows what the next release will bring.
I liked your theme before this one, but this one look more..simple and clean for my eyes
Dina: Truly, WP can be hassle especially when it comes time to update our blogs after a major upgrade.
WP 2.5 promises to be just that and I’m sure many of themes currently used just won’t make the transition. I keep coming back to this theme because it is simple, easy to use, and there isn’t a whole lot of stuff that needs to be done to maintain it. I only hope that it survives the next upgrade!
As far as “what is a girl to do?” goes, all I can say is do a Cindy Lauper and have fun, fun, fun. Some things in life are out of our hands — WP is one of them.
Sarah: I imagine that there will be some very upset bloggers in the near future who will discover that the issues with their blogs transcend what there used to handle. My recommendation to everyone is to find WP 2.5 compatible themes and keep them handy just in case. Also, as long as this is not a security-related upgrade, then we can delay the dreaded day a bit too.
Webmaster: Agreed. This theme is a delight, in so many ways. I don’t mind the fixed width either as some of the fluid width themes are difficult to read.
Yeah you definitely need to check every site or blog you start on different browsers and different screen resolutions. I’ve had sites for months or even as long as a year before I knew they were totally messed up in a different browser or resolution. That really sucks to find out.
Thanks, Work at Home World — I now know how to make certain that everything looks fine. I’m sure my readers will be glad that I did too.
I like the theme too. Many people have wide monitors though - you could use the space…
I like your new theme. It’s simple and has very nice colors. Nice pick :).
Are there any sites that have many themes that you can use for blog pages? It seems like the normal selction is kinda skimpy…
One of the biggest mistakes with blogs that I see are colors that clash - a light on a light or something like that. It makes them hard to read - but this one seems just fine.
