Smart PageRank and the Smart Toolbar
I like to utilize various extensions that have been developed for the Firefox browser to help improve my web experience. As SEO is important to me these extensions are invaluable (coupled with certain internet tools that I also favor). I first made mention of Smart PageRank this past March and again in June when a backlinks analyzer was added for this internet tool. In brief, Smart PageRank allows webmasters/bloggers to learn a lot about how their site performs including PageRank, backlinks, Alexa score, and Google datacenter details. Smart PageRank also has a Firefox toolbar you may want to install, a great way for you to access plenty of information about any site quickly and accurately. Let’s take a closer look at this “must have” toolbar.
The Smart Toolbar Is A Wise Choice
I could explain the tool bar myself, but I’ll allow the Smart PageRank people to tell you in their own words what this devise will do for you:
The Smart Toolbar will enable you to –
- See the Alexa Rank of every page you visit.
- See the Google PageRank of every page you visit.
- Estimate the value of the website that you are currently viewing.
- See the PageRank of the backlinks to the current page.
- See the whois for the page that you are currently viewing.
- Check if other tld’s for the domain is available for the page that you are currently viewing.
- Check the Google PageRank from multiple datacenters for the page that you are currently viewing.
With Firefox, the toolbar will show up somewhere below your main navigation bar. You can view how the Smart Toolbar will look on your screen by examining the following picture:

An Occasional Glitch
The Smart Toolbar isn’t perfect and it will need to be updated over time. For example, I noticed that PageRank wasn’t showing up when I visited certain pages while my Google toolbar was able to supply this information.
When clicking the Valuate button, you will need to scroll down to see what the amount is. I would have created a bookmark (#) to help people find that result; then again the valuation tool is a “just for fun” tool that cannot possibly give you an accurate value for your site.
Finally, the backlink tool works best if you access it directly from the site you want to review. In other words, if you use the toolbar to obtain the site valuation, you will need to hit your Firefox back button to return to that site before clicking on the backlinks icon.
I like having as much information in one place as possible instead of having to access various bookmarks or googling for those details as these extra steps are time wasters. The Smart Toolbar is a step in the right direction and with improvement it could become one of the more popular Firefox extensions available.

very cool. that’s a slew of feature to have in a tiny toolbar like that.
