Developing a WP-Friendly Newsletter
Yesterday, I took a big step — I decided to purchase and download files to create a WordPress-friendly newsletter for three of my websites, including this one. I had been mulling for
more than one year the idea of producing a newsletter, but after reading Anne Wayman’s article, “Consider Writing Your Own Newsletter,” I decided that the time to get this project going has arrived.
I selected the ShiftThis WordPress Newsletter Plug-In to help me build the newsletters and purchased three licenses from them for my sites.
Although I have resisted writing newsletters for some time, it isn’t because I am new to this method of communication. Between 1992 and 2002 when I worked for a business aviation company in New Jersey, I was tasked with writing and editing three newsletters for pilots, flight attendants, and maintenance technicians. At one point I was knocking out 14 issues per year, on a tight deadline at that.
No, I don’t expect to be that prolific with my newest batch of newsletters. Instead, I’ll promise subscribers an occasional brief newsletter covering topics similar to what I am already writing about with a couple of new features included. Back copies of each issue will be made available through this site too.
Look for a subscription widget to be added to this blog in early July with the first issue of the newsletter rolling out in August.

Matt - Great idea to start the news letter. I look forward to its debut. Also nice that you gave a brief bio on your background, we get to ‘know’ a bit about you. Also enjoyed your post on getting out of debt. Being a former ChFC, FPC, your article is spot on. “Off we go into the wild blue yonder, climbing high into the sun..”
Hi Morgan. When I get the bugs out the WP Plug-in I’ll post a sign up form to a prominent place on the blog. I’m looking forward to learning how useful an electronic newsletter can be these days.
Hey Matt,
A newsletter, especially for a blog, can be a gift to some people. Each week after sending mine out, I always get a couple people who send me a note thanking me for having one, so I’m sure your results will be no different.
Please be sure to tell us how you like the plugin.

Great ide to start a newsletter. I am thinking about having the same at my website http://www.pasmallen.se
Let me now if you think its worth the effort.
Hi Matt,
Great idea to have your own newsletter. Keep updates on how it’s going. I’m interested to get some of your personal review.
Btw, which plugin is used to show avatar in comments?
Hi Aldian, thank you for your comment. Concerning the plug-in, it is called MyAvatars and it is something I have been using for the past few months. You can learn more about it at JohnTP.com. Have fun!
Great idea with a newsletter! I’m thinking of starting one myself at http://www.eflyg.com/flygresor but haven’t had the time to do that yet.
Regarding the ShiftThis WordPress plugin, I would really like to hear what you think about it.
Sistah, I downloaded the program but I have not used it yet. I am busy with other projects and have tabled the newsletter idea for now.
When (or if) I do move forward I will be happy to post that information here.
