MyBlogLog Rocks My World
I signed up with MyBlogLog in October 2006 and promptly neglected this social network site. At that time, other projects took up all of my time, so it wasn’t until January 2007 that I was able to revisit the site and make it work for me. I am glad that I did as MyBlogLog has proven to be one of the best social networking resources online.
Some of the benefits of MyBlogLog are obvious:
- You can list every single one of your blogs, creating communities for people to join.
- You can communicate with your members publicly or privately. You can ignore people if you so choose.
- You can find like-minded people and join their communities too.
- You can post to the MyBlogLog weblog.
Other benefits of MyBlogLog are less obvious, but they could be the most important attributes:
- Your customized profile tells people something about you. I’ve gotten freelance gigs because I mentioned my writing services which has triggered inquiries from interested members.
- Your profile page will achieve PageRank. Although PageRank is definitely overrated, it is nice to find a healthy backlink pointing to my blogs. In my particular case, I have a PR4 MyBlogLog profile.
- Blog stats are in real time, even with the free version of the stats. Pay just $25 extra annually and you can activate a comprehensive stat tracking program which includes tracking of every link in, what was viewed, and what was clicked. I am satisfied with their basic program as it provides everything that I need — if I want more information I can get that via Google Analytics.
There are a few things about MyBlogLog I don’t like including:
- You are stuck viewing whatever avatars people use. I don’t like in-your-face avatars including many animated gifs as well as avatars of excessively endowed women. Heck, if I want to view porn, I know where to find it. Some other avatars are just plain creepy — if you aren’t a sociopath, you certainly look like one! Word has it that significant changes are in the works for MyBlogLog including rebranding the community and the removal of some of the more offensive photographs.
- The widget is good, but it could be better. A hover feature would be nice to have (expected to be added when the site is overhauled).
In all, I give MyBlogLog a thumbs up and I look forward to the changes that new owner Yahoo! will be bringing to this dynamic social network community.

MyBlogLog really is a nice deal. I am working on getting a new picture up today. Now if only Facebook would buy them.
Ah, Facebook. I haven’t joined that social network, yet. Maybe Yahoo! could flip the site and make a profit too, right?
Great article, Matt! You really keep me informed on these things! What would I do without you? Hmm…I’d have to do all that research on my own!
Have a wonderful night!
Lisa
Why thank you, Lisa! I like to share useful information as I find others are doing the same. The internet has so much to offer and the best way to harness all of that is through social networking.
MyBlogLog has brought me some new and interesting visitors, but I really think just cruising around the web visiting through links is the way to do it. I love meeting new people through my web friends.
Well said, Rinsem. No matter how you meet up with people, there are a variety of ways to connect.
Hi Matt ,seriously I really love this one.Mybloglog is special for blogger especially their strong point where in this post you didn’t like right? For me avatars is treat like your 1st impression same as corporate logo company, that so is really important and to know and select which bloggers matured or not is simply from how their present their self through avatars.Oh ya!I came here because of yours avatar..what you think?
Hey, laling! Glad you stopped by. Yes, avatars do let me know who is worth hanging around with and who is worth ignoring. Maybe that is the stated purpose of selecting avatars that many people find annoying — so that the immature people can easily find each other.
