I knew that there were a lot of WordPress plug-ins, but I had no idea that there were so many of them. Indeed, if you go by what WordPress is saying, then there is no reason to question that number.

Finding plug-ins is another matter, usually accomplished through visits to a few keys sites that list hundreds of them, but no site lists them all. Until now.

Yesterday, WordPress announced the unveiling of their plug-in directory, a step that should help those of us who like to use them, find them. This is good news for someone like me who has grown to appreciate the versality of many WP add-ons.

One plug-in I installed on my blogs today is Kramer, a device that automatically “…will add inbound links to a post on your weblog as pingbacks without the need for the author of the post on blog A to send a ping to blog B by using both Technorati and by monitoring incoming referrers.” Too early to tell how well it works, but I am already seeing some evidence that it is working. There is one little bug, though, where the latest links are not showing up on my sidebar, but I understand a fix is being worked on as of this writing.

So, go ahead and check out the directory — there could be something useful for your blog.
