Our world is certainly changing fast when you realize that the internet plays such an important part in the way that commerce is conducted. It used to be that Black Friday was one of the most important days on the retailing calendar, but I have learned that the Saturday immediately preceding Christmas is the busiest day for brick and mortar retailers.
Today marks a relatively new phenomenon, something that industry analysts are calling Cyber Monday. Apparently, more than 60 million people will be logging on to their computers and buying stuff, making this day the busiest online retail day of the year. What is interesting about this particular event is that mostly every one of these consumers will be logging on while at work, probably on company time at that.
Although I work for myself, I won’t be shopping online today, but I will be doing so in the very near future. Like so many shoppers I prefer the convenience of the internet instead of dealing with the teeming crowds at my local mall even though I can reach the mall on foot from my home in less than ten minutes. Besides, the best deals can be found online, can’t they?

Before a grammar expert gets on my case, a “twofer” is a slang term for getting 2 of something for the price of 1. Yep, I am showcasing my current marketing scheme by using slang verbiage. Oh me, oh my.
Anyway, I spent the better part of Friday morning and the early afternoon concocting my special offer, writing a press release about it, updating several web pages, modifying a related AdWords campaign, changing a signature on an SEO forum to announce the special, and more. I think I got it all, but I envision I’ll have to return later to do some tweaking.
As it stands, I am offering two press releases for $95, four press releases for $190, and so on and up to twelve press releases. The offer is active now and it will expire on February 2, 2007, although press releases can still be written and distributed throughout February.
I am excited about this offer because I believe it will bring in more clients for me and it’ll give me something to reward my current clientele.
I almost hate to let the proverbial cat out of the bag, but I am spending part of this day after the Thanksgiving holiday on coming up with a new marketing strategy that involves modifying my current press release offer. So far, I am seeing some decent results with the offer as it currently stands, but I have been mulling over strategy to help bring in some additional business.
Without slashing prices to the bone, I believe that crafting a deal that offers a multi press release package can help clients get the attention that they need without causing me to sell myself short. The key involves finding the right balance between doing the work and coming up with a fair price, something that we freelance writers often struggle with, but seldom feel all that confident about.
I am sure that I’ll come up with a plan that will keep me busy over the next several months, but I am not quite there yet. When I do, I’ll publish that information online and probably distribute a press release of my own to announce what I have in store.
