Good Grief! Navy Loses 43rd Straight to Irish
Navy must be the holder of some sort of record for sport futility. Today, the overmatched Middies lost to the Fighting Irish by the score of 38 to 14. This was the 43rd straight time that Navy has lost to Norte Dame, dating way back to the time when Roger Staubach was at the helm for Navy in the early 1960s.
Some probably think that a game against a service academy is an automatic win for Norte Dame. Maybe against Navy and Army, but you’ll have to ask someone in South Bend about Air Force. Back in the early 1980s Air Force ran off a streak of four straight wins over the Irish, something that set the Norte Dame program reeling.
Now if we could only get Navy to gain some of the old Flying Falcon momentum we’d see an end to Norte Dame’s dominance. At least you can credit the two institutions with carrying on a with a time honored tradition despite the lopsided relationship between these two football programs.
