ISO Blog Writer

This past week I have been applying for a few different blog writing positions in hopes of gaining some additional exposure for myself while earning a small stipend. The way I look at things, I am already blogging…so why not devote an extra 30 minutes daily toward making someone else’s blog look good?

Well, it isn’t always that easy to land the ideal blog position. One job I found promises to pay out the princely sum of $1 per blog posting and that task involves reading an article and writing a review about it. Let’s just say that I figure I’d have to spend 15 to 20 minutes on each one; maybe I’d pull in about $2 or $3 per day for my efforts. No thanks.

Then, there is this new blogging network called Soulcast where you can blog about yourself and get paid to do that. Invite your friends, just like on MySpace, and the money will roll in. No, you won’t be paid a commission, instead you can sign up with Google and have their AdSense ads appear on your site. Naturally, they warn you from encouraging others to click on your ads, but this is the only source of revenue offered. Gee, I think I am already doing that…

If you hear about a blog writing position, feel free to forward the same to me. My specialities are writing, aviation, automotive, sports, and the like. Heck, I’ll even write on personal finance issues or real estate if the opportunity is right!

PR Gyrations, Take Two

I admit that I check the Google Page Rank for various URLs in my portfolio on a regular basis. Today, I noticed that this blog’s PR started off at 4, went up to a 6, then back to a 5, before settling back down to a 4. The last time I mentioned PR Gyrations Google was in the process of doing one of its big updates and the same thing was happening: PR was all over the place.

You can even do a prediction of what your Page Rank will be once Google updates its information. iWebTool is one of a handful of sites that have a tool to predict future page rank. I don’t know if it is accurate, but it certainly is fun…and distracting!

Ernesto or Not!

I have my eyes on my computer and my ears tuned into the weather report today. Word has it that Tropical Depression Ernesto may strengthen as it moves off of Florida and into the Atlantic Ocean. With water temperatures of 87 degrees off the coast, this is fuel for further strengthening for a wannabe hurricane. As I live near Raleigh, NC we’ll at least get some heavy rains from the storm no matter how much it strengthens. With a few projects pending, I can’t chance it that I will lose power as the storm moves through. Thus, I am scrambling to get my work done in the event things go kaput tomorrow for a day or two.

Aaaaah…the life of a freelancer!
