Working for oneself can be a terrific thing especially for the person who likes to control their own time, their own projects, their own business. After 3 1/2 years of self employment, I can emphatically say that I would never want to go back to the “ole days” of working for a company.

Self employment doesn’t mean you automatically take off every single holiday nor does it mean long weekends off throughout the summer months. It can for some folks, but for the majority of us it is business as usual when certain holidays pop up.

This coming Monday is Memorial Day and I will be at my computer working. I am doing this by choice as I plan on taking some time off during the work week at a later date; by working on Monday it will allow me to move some of my work around. Besides, there is no such thing as a “paid holiday” when it comes to self employment!

Then again, if I finish my work up quickly or if it is especially hot outside, I just may fire up the grille and cook a few burgers for my wife and kids just like so many of my fellow Americans will be doing.

Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend and don’t forget about the veterans and folks in service to our country. Thanks to those who defend freedom [and God] I can choose whether to work on a particular day or not. For that option I am most grateful.
