National Wear Red Day!

Go Red!

It isn’t every day that we wear red, but if there is one day where we should consider wearing red, then that day is this Friday.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of men…I bet you already knew that. However, did you know that heart disease is also the No. 1 killer of women? Yes, it is true: nearly 500,000 women die annually from heart disease. Unlike with men, it can be harder to detect heart disease in women.

So, to raise awareness of the risks the women face, the American Heart Association has designated Friday, February 3, 2006, as National Wear Red Day. On Friday, please show your support for women by wearing red — help raise awareness about women and cardiovascular diseases.

So There Goes January!

I am not sure if I have ever seen a month go by so fast as I have with this January. Truly, it seems as if Christmas Day was but a moment ago, but 5 weeks is more like it.

I am keeping my goals steady for 2006, which includes marketing myself heavily and taking on newe assignments. Financially, January is in the black which is just great for me. I am looking at February with a little bit of trepidation as the month is only 28 days long. Unfortunately, monthly bills aren’t shortened by two days!

Still, this February will have the Winter Olympics as they start on February 10th in Torino, Italy. My wife, hater of winter, loves the Winter Olympics. So, some of the month I’ll spend with my wife and children watching T.V. and rooting for the U.S. Bobsled team, figure skaters, and more. Go USA!

Have a great February!

Humble Pie

Some days are good and some days are bad. Real bad. I had one of the latter this past Thursday.

I missed renewing the domain name for a site I manage, www.corporateflyer.net, so Thursday the site went “dark” and everyone was locked out. Even though I discovered the problem right away, it still took 24 hours to bring everything back online.

Things got worse in the afternoon when I attempted to make some modifications to my other blog, Jet Movements. The plug-in didn’t take and before long my .htaccess file was corrupt. After five or so changes, things were still messed up, so I decided to upgrade the forum to WP 2.0. Things went well or so I thought.

On Friday morning I checked Jet Movements with I.E. and it looked horrible! So, I had to upload three templates until I found one that worked right. After two hours of tweaking and modifying everything was fine. Goes to show you how our little mistakes can get out of control.

BTW, at least one good thing happened on Thursday. I submitted a proposal for work that was tentatively accepted by the other side. I won’t know for sure ’til later today.

So, I had my humble pie. Sometimes I think all of this is God’s way to remind us just how much our gifts and strength comes from Him and not us.
