This Saturday Is The Classy-Chassis Car Show

Stumble It!

When the weather is hot, as it almost always is here in North Carolina during the summer months, there isn’t a whole lot anyone wants to do except get to where they’re going very slowly. Outdoor activity is reserved for the early morning hours or for the evening when the heat of the day has broken.

One event that is marked during the hottest part of the day is the Classy-Chassis Car Show and Country Flea Market held each year on the grounds of the Poplar Grove Plantation in New Hanover County, NC. Starting at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 5th, visitors can take in a car show featuring more than 160 cars and find some good stuff at the flea market.

Though the event is held outside, visitors will have the benefit of viewing all of the cars in the shade thanks to the well kept grounds which feature numerous trees. The air will be quite warm, but you won’t melt under the direct heat of the sun while you saunter from car to car and take in the wares being featured at the flea market (the featured photo is NOT of the show). Besides, if you get too hot escaping to the air-conditioned barn is one way of coping!

Admission to the combined event is free, though entrants to the show will pay $20 to feature their rides.  Registration begins at 8 a.m. and ends at 12 noon, with judging beginning immediately thereafter. Winners will be announced at 3 p.m.  Dash plaques will be given to the first 200 entries, wall plaques to the top 75 finishers, and specialty trophies will also be awarded.  A 50/50 raffle will be offered; food and concessions will be available. All proceeds will benefit the Poplar Grove Foundation, Inc., toward the purchase of their own food concession trailer.

Cars from model year 1980 and earlier can be entered in the show. Valve cover racing will also be held, making this one event you certainly will not want to miss.

What vehicle do you have, Alex? Do tell! These are some of my favorite shows too — wheeling history on display.

    My babe is Porsche 911SC

That’s a nice ride, Alex. The 911 was the first Porsche I ever rode in and, for someone who grew up on big American cars, the smallest car too. But it was fast!
