Porsche Wows Us With The 2009 911

Porsche is one automaker who finds itself in an envious position.
Last week, we learned that the German sports car maker had once again been recognized as the top brand in J.D. Power & Associates’ initial quality survey, with just 87 defects per 100 vehicles sold. This is the third consecutive year that Porsche garnered the top position besting Lexus, Ford, and Cadillac in the process.
Earlier, the Luxury Institute — an association that tracks the spending habits of high net worth people — said that Porsche finished on top of their annual survey of automotive brands, the fourth consecutive year that automaker has bested the competition.
Not Holding Anything Against Porsche
Clearly, Porsche is an automaker who can do no wrong unless you consider their snub of this year’s auto show in Detroit as being something worth holding against them. Or, if you are a Porsche purist, you never quite forgave them for introducing the Cayenne — a red hot sport SUV, three letters enthusiasts believe should never be mentioned in the same breath as Porsche.
Likely, these missteps are quickly forgotten by Porsche faithful when they get behind the wheel of their cars, enjoying unsurpassed luxury, sportiness, and brand appeal.
The Next Generation Porsche 911
For the 2009 model year, Porsche has updated its iconic 911 model series to give luxury car buyers yet another reason to consider the German marque.
Yes, the 911 is back with the promise of delivering more power and increased fuel economy, a 13% boost thanks to the all-new flat-six engines displacing 3.6 and 3.8 liters respectively. And for the first time, Porsche engines are utilizing direct fuel injection (DFI) which can be paired with its new optional 7-speed double-clutch gearbox Porsche-Doppelkupplung (PDK), something that Porsche says is, “racing inspired technology and a Porsche first.”
All Your Favorite Porsche Amenities
The Porsche Communication Management system, PCM 3.0 ( which is the latest version) now features a new touchscreen, is standard equipment on all 2009 911s. Desired options such as a hard disk drive navigation system, XM radio with XM NavTraffic capability, Bluetooth® connectivity, iPOD® port, USB port, and aux jack will also be available.
Also of note are many exterior improvements including a refined front bumper with larger air intakes which signal an increase in power and the newly designed dual-arm exterior mirrors which provide for a larger field of vision to the rear of the 911.
LED daytime driving lights and bi-xenon headlights are standard on all new models, as well as LED tail and brake lights, which give a more distinctive style and unique look from the front and rear. For 2009, Porsche now offers Dynamic Cornering Lights on all models. As expected, these changes have no impact on drag coefficient as the 911 stays at 0.29.
U.S. pricing for the 2009 911 will start at $75,600 for the Carrera Coupe, $86,200 for the Carrera Cabriolet and the Carrera S Coupe, and $96,800 for the Carrera S Cabriolet. The new models will show up in U.S. showrooms beginning this September.

Whilst Porsche are at the top of J D Power and they keep making better and better cars I think the Porsche faithful is a growing fraternity.
