The Auto Writer

Today was the first of three press days for the North American International Auto Show, being held in Detroit, where I have the privilege of being on location to cover this event.

We got our start early today, meeting with OnStar executives followed by the General Motors press conference with Chairman Rick Wagoner (photo, right) who introduced the Saab 9-4X BioPower and Hummer Hx (photo below) concepts.

Following a break for lunch, the online media crew was given the opportunity to interview key members of GM management including an engaging group interview with industry icon and GM Vice Chairman, Bob Lutz.

My internet access has been spotty all day, hence the late posting of this article. Earlier in the day the Chevrolet Malibu and Mazda CX-9 were named the North American Car and Truck of the year winners respectively and many of the major manufacturers had the chance to unveil new models including the luxury Hyundai Genesis sedan and the Ford Flex crossover.

Once I am able to secure unbroken and steady access to the internet, I will upload photographs and post excerpts from the interviews. I will share highlights of the OnStar meeting, but I’ll save those details for a later date — I have too much information about OnStar to rush that article.

I’m off to a dinner tonight with Jill Lajdziak, General Manager of Saturn. We are dining with her at Andiamo’s Restaurant, an elegant Italian restaurant located in GM Wintergarden. Until then, ciao!
