On the Block: Jaguar, Land Rover
Despite long denying that the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover would happen, the Ford Motor Company has signaled that they are now considering selling the two British automakers that are part of the company’s premium luxury group. The news comes just months after Ford sold another British brand, Aston Martin, and as the company struggles to regroup from historic financial and market share losses.
Jaguar has long been considered a drain on Ford’s resources, something the afflicted automaker can hardly keep funding considering its overall financial plight. If the two brands do sell, then only Volvo would remain in Ford’s fold.
A sale of Volvo would be unlikely given that Volvo and Ford make extensive use of each other’s technology, platforms, and more. Look for Ford to use the monies derived from the sale to pay down debt and to fund its US operation.
