Mad, Crazy, Love For The Lincoln MKS?
Ford has three all-new products being released this year which, if the present economic (read: gas prices) trends weren’t so bad, might do quite well. The odd-looking Ford Flex took its bow earlier this month, the new Lincoln MKS sedan goes on sale this week, and the iconic Ford F-150 truck will also appear though its debut has been delayed by two months.
Who would have thought at the beginning of the year that Ford’s most popular model would be its ho-hum Focus, a car selling as much for its Ford SYNC navigation/entertainment system as it is for its low price and good gas mileage?
The second leg of this three-legged stool is the Lincoln MKS, a sedan that Ford hopes will revive its American luxury make. Unfortunately, there are two things working against what may still be a good car — high gas prices and front wheel drive. The former is whacking sales of most luxury models; the latter is a curious design choice given that rear wheel drive is the preferred set up for full sized luxury cars these days. True, the Cadillac DTS is front wheel drive, but GM has seen the light and promises to replace the current model with a rear drive sedan when (or if) it can bring forth a new product.
Regardless of what you or I think of the MKS, Ford is pouring scads of money into marketing the car. Last night, Black Entertainment Television (BET) aired what Ford has called the first three-minute movie to appear on national television, MadCrazyLove depicting one couple’s first time meeting. Though I didn’t tune in to see the movie, it is also a different way for Ford to present its latest product, the Lincoln MKS.
Anyway, I’ve embedded the promo related to the movie which is as long as the movie itself and I’m offering this link to you if you want to learn more about the MKS, the movie, the stars, etc. Ford says that 8600 customers have pre-ordered the MKS, but maintaining momentum in the months ahead will be a challenge Ford will have to meet.
