Is There A Tesla In Your Future?
I don’t normally give a freebie plug to an automaker on this blog. Okay, sometimes I do when I write a favorable review. If it is deserved, that is. Tesla Motors is receiving a positive plug for one simple reason — I am intrigued by what this automaker is producing: a high performance electric car.
A Relatively Unknown Brand
Yes, the name Tesla Motors is probably known only to the most ardent automotive enthusiasts, not to the average motorist who drives a Toyota, Chevy, VW, etc. That’s okay, the company isn’t mass producing anything just yet, but what they are planning on producing is turning heads.
A 135 MPG Sports Car
Is America ready for a high performance, low energy use sports car? I’ll let you be the judge of that. In California, where the company is headquartered, gasoline prices are well above the $3 per gallon level. Sure, Californians are used to paying such high prices you may think. Think again! Sure, Californians are completely satisfied with ho-hum powered hybrids. Think again.
The Tesla Roadster, inspired by Lotus, promises to zip occupants from 0 to 60 in just about 4 seconds flat. Electric powered, the car will go about 200 miles on a single charge, well within the range of the average California commute. If you could put an average fuel mileage figure to the car, 135 mpg would be the equivalent number — a real foreign-oil-dependency back breaker don’t you think?
More To Follow
Time doesn’t permit me to go into much more detail about Tesla Motors at the moment. Although the number of cars to be produced is quite small, I think the concept is one worth looking at again and again. Therefore, expect additional Tesla news in the future.

I’m hoping that there is a Tesla or another electric car in everyone’s future. The technology is here, the support structure for electric cars is here (just park it in your garage or driveway and plug it in) and no one could deny that the “need” is here, also. We have the technology available today to power our homes with solar energy and charge our electric cars from the same system. There are people who do this already and I see a future where almost everyone will do the same. Please continue your reporting on electric cars. With global warming and wars being fought over oil, this country needs these cars now more than ever.
The Tesla is awesome! Electric is the way to go!
As long as their is choice in what people can buy, I have no problems with the Tesla or similar cars. Personally, I don’t want to drive a lightweight aluminum can, I want some iron under me when driving down the interstate.
Thank you Wade and Frank for you comments.
