iPhone 3G Comes Fitted With GPS!

I’ve been fascinated with the various GPS devices on the marketplace including Tom Tom and a couple of other brands. When I last checked prices, these devices were retailing for $250 on up, certainly a reasonable amount of money for the work that each one does.
Very soon, Tom Tom, Garmin and others will find that one of its newest competitors will actually drop the price of a GPS down to $199, but it isn’t the only thing that this new unit does. Yes, a special edition Apple iPhone (the 3G for third generation) will become available on July 11th, with the potential to really shake up the GPS industry as it will also come equipped with GPS navigation.
As far as its phone capabilities go, the iPhone is used exclusively with AT&T, thus you’ll need to sign a contract with them in order to have cell phone access.
Regarding its GPS function, the 3G will will make use of Google Maps and feature live traffic information that can be switched from map to satellite view, or a combination of both. You’ll also be able to look up nearby points of interest and get turn-by-turn directions with tracking that updates your position like any other GPS unit.
The standard iPhone 3G comes with 8 gig of memory but for $299, consumers can order a model that comes with 16 gigs.

The processor is tagged as slightly more recent design number but it and the GPU are likely the similar speed since the 3GS. The old Touch with the similar Processor and GPU since the 3G was faster. Apart from getting the clock pace turned up higher the Contact has much less software to run since it’s not a telephone. It should do better than any iPhone to this day in performance.
