Happy Thanksgiving!

I’m taking a break from The Auto Writer until Monday so that I might enjoy time with my family, to show thankfulness to God for His many mercies, and to tie up several loose ends. The holiday season is officially here which means that we’ll be adding one more component to our already busy lives. Whew!

ThanksgivingIn case you’ve missed them, the following recent articles may be of interest to you. I’ve summed several of them up and have links back to each one:

On Black Friday, Car Discounts Rule! — The best day of the year to buy a new car may be the day after Thanksgiving. Known as Black Friday, car dealers are in the discounting mood especially as they see traffic passing their stores for the mall.

Now Official: Buick Regal Unwrapped! — I’ve been expecting this announcement for some time, given that this car is already on sale in China and is currently being sold as the Opel Insignia in Europe. Still, the Regal is one model for Buick which desperately needs to remake its image.

Porsche Suit Is A Load Of Croc! – I promise I’ll work on leaving exclamation points out of more of my headlines. In any case, I do like Porsche but I don’t like their battle with Crocs which I believe is misplaced. Saying that Cayman is a trademark is absurd. There is a county and a gator which have had that name for many more years than Porsche has been around.

Odds Are Stacked Heavily Against Chrysler Recovery – I realize that I’m taking a position that isn’t popular with the automotive press when it comes to Chrysler’s chances for survival. Sergio Marchionne may be a miracle maker when it comes to Fiat, but Chrysler has its own sorts of problems to contend with. I outlined several threats to Chrysler’s recovery including recently emboldened competitors who are taking market share away from the Chrysler Group.

And just in case you want something else to read, I offer several links to other articles I have read recently elsewhere including:

Mahindra Planet — Mahindra trucks are due here next year, but their prices may not be as low as you think thanks to the escalating cost of raw materials.

Accelerate Mpls — Joel Feder offers his review of the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS and outlines some improvements he think that GM can make with the car. Then again, there isn’t much “wrong” with the Camaro which is duking it out with the Mustang for top muscle car honors.

Tundra Headquarters — Toyota is recalling some 110,000 first generation Tundras due to a frame rust issue. Jason opines that this is a good first step by Toyota, but that more still needs to be done.

Speed:Sport:Life –  Who said that the Dodge Viper is past its prime or has exhausted its fan appeal? Zerin Dube noted that the iconic sports car recently broke a lap speed record at Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA. Dodge will debut the 2010 model next week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Happy Thanksgiving!
