GM Offers Glimpse Of Chevy Volt Design

Question: What GM model has received the most buzz over the past year? Well, I don’t have a measuring stick to compare the various models, but the Camaro is close to the top. However, another Chevy model, the Volt has been getting a lot of press lately especially as GM pushes forward with getting this hybridized vehicle ready.

This past January I had a wonderful opportunity to visit the Volt design studio and took advantage of that offer. While there, I was able to see the clay mock up of the Volt as well as to get a look at pre-production model covered in tarp, though the Volt team only allowed us to see a portion of one side panel and a bit of the front.

Today, General Motors splashed a pair of photographs of the updated design, pictures offered as followed with my comment:

Not much different from what I have seen, though the headlamps and fog/turning lights have been improved. The Chevy grille has been retained, but it seems to flow better with the design. I prefer that GM keep the more chiseled look for Cadillac and let Chevrolet emphasize its sweeping lines as shown.

What stands out here for me is that the Chevrolet badge stays intact, while the Volt insignia shows the electrical charge passing through the models name. I think this is a wise move on General Motors part as I am a big proponent of seamless brand identity, particularly when it comes to automobiles. Other than Corvette, I believe every Chevy should sport the Chevrolet bow prominently to help build brand identity. Other than that, it is difficult for me to figure out what other changes were made to the rear panel.
