GM Mulls Sale Of ACDelco Unit
General Motors (GM) has been in the marketing mood lately, trying to sell off Hummer while looking at acquiring Chrysler LLC. Now the word on the street is that GM is looking to sell off its valuable global aftermarket parts arm, ACDelco. GM has retained Merrill-Lynch to assist them with the sale.
Valued in the neighborhood of $4 billion, a sale of ACDelco would enable GM to raise money to fund a variety of projects going forward. GM is bleeding cash at the rate of $1 billion per month and the sale of ACDelco would buy the automaker some time as it retools its plants and brings to the market several smaller, lighter, and much more fuel efficient vehicles including the electric Chevrolet Volt and the highly fuel efficient Chevrolet Cruze.
ACDelco provides light-duty maintenance and repair parts and associated services for GM and non-GM vehicles in more than one hundred countries. As part of GM Service & Parts Operations, ACDelco is headquartered in Grand Blanc, Michigan, with approximately 600 employees worldwide.
ACDelco has more than one hundred years of experience in the automotive aftermarket industry, and is considered to be a global leader in automotive replacement parts and related services. Among their many products are maintenance parts usually replaced during the lifespan of a vehicle (for example, batteries, oil filters, air filters, wiper blades, shocks and brakes), as well as repair parts (for example, alternators, radiators, chassis and heating/cooling components).
ACDelco is among the world’s best known comprehensive All Makes, All Models providers, featuring high quality auto parts for both GM and non-GM vehicles and services, with the brand’s “genuine OE” reputation signifying high quality replacement parts, support and training in the automotive aftermarket. In the US, ACDelco offers 37 full product lines with over 100,000 part numbers, comprised of both GM original equipment and All Makes, All Models product.
