Ford Losses Ease For 2007

Compared to the bloodletting experienced in 2006, word of Ford’s $2.7 billion loss for 2007 is actually being treated as good news by auto industry analysts. Ford, which lost Ford$12.6 billion a year earlier, is in the process of a huge makeover resulting in the closing of ten plants and the cutting of more than 40,000 jobs.

Entering the fourth quarter of 2007, Ford had actually been in the black for the year but huge losses in the last three months wiped out the gains, resulting in the loss. Ford says that they expect sales to pick up beginning in the the third quarter when new models are introduced including its all-new Ford F-Series pickup trucks, the Ford Flex crossover, and the Lincoln MKS luxury sedan.

Ford remains profitable overseas while the North American market continues to present a huge drag on the company’s viability. Like GM, Ford continues to grow in emerging markets, offering the company the best chance of expanding sales and strengthening its bottomline.
