Hybrids and electric cars have a long way to go before these vehicles are embraced by the general public. These vehicles are generally not affordable when compared to straight gasoline compact cars which retail for about $16,000 get 40 mpg. Price matters, as you mentioned, and automakers have little financial incentive to build more cars that people aren’t buying.

In my article, “Why Thrifty Cars Are Killing Hybrids,” I outline the problem. Actually, I don’t see much problem whatsoever. These new gasoline powered cars are economical, emit fewer pollutants are affordable.

I have looked at eco-friendly alternatives, so far I have installed solar panels on my home but while looking for a electric car I find the cost doesnt justify it for me. While I am passionate about making green choices whenever possible it is up to people like you and I to spread awareness and let the companies know there is a demand. Your website looks popular and I think you can help influence society with your insight and eco tips. by the way I found your site by searching First Drive: Ford Fusion Hybrid and you were the first result. This is true for most people. Most people want to be eco-friendly but for the most part at least currently sometimes going green is not financially a good idea.

Nishant, the price is steep but given the high fuel economy, list of amenities and federal rebate, the cost of ownership is narrowed between it and premium gas powered Fusion models.
