My wife has been taking note of all of the Ford Fiesta commercials running during the ninth season of American Idol. I really hadn’t noticed them until last night when I decided to tune in during the final hour of the season to see who was going to be named this year’s winner (congratulations Lee DeWyze!).

In any case, while I was watching Chicago, Janet Jackson and Joe Cocker sing and strut their stuff, no fewer than three Ford Fiesta commercials were aired. I had to say that I, no we, were impressed by Ford’s grand roll out of its all new for North America subcompact.

Fiesta Spots

I don’t usually comment about car commercials, though I must admit that I find the majority of those produced by the automakers to be fairly entertaining, but not so with what most local dealers show. Local ads are usually corny and annoying. Still, I couldn’t help notice that the Ford Fiesta spots were youthful, informative and just plain fun–exactly what you’d expect when introducing these cars to young drivers.

My wife and I are Baby Boomers, so we’re not the kind of customer Ford usually has in mind when it comes to the Fiesta. Ford has targeted Milennials, a group of drivers loosely defined as being born in 1982 or later years. Yes, we’re old enough to be their parents even though our own children are not yet of driving age.

High Tech

But that’s what is so interesting about this new breed of small cars: they’re not only nicely styled, but amazingly well equipped. Gone are the days when the entry level car arrives stripped; today’s small car buyers want value but they also want a number of amenities such as Bluetooth connectivity, side curtain airbags, a sporty engine, top notch transmission choices and comfortable seats.

The base Ford Fiesta is retailing for $13,995 and offers all of these things and more which means for a car selling for around $17-18K, you’ll get just about everything you can possibly want. Indeed, a lot of the features offered in the Fiesta are subcompact class exclusive including seven airbags, SYNC technology and six-speed automatic transmission.

Suddenly, a small car has all of the amenities usually found in a medium size model, while delivering enough power and returning a best in class 40 mpg on the highway.

Smart Packaging

As far as actually plunking our own money down to buy a Ford Fiesta, we’re not likely to do that. At least not right now. But the Fiesta commercials have certainly caught our attention which demonstrates that if you have a new product to sell, package it right and market it smartly, customers will beat a path to your door.

Ever since the year began, traffic to this blog has surged thanks in a big way to General Motors which invited me to be their guest at this year’s NAIAS in Detroit. The chance to interview key industry leaders, rub shoulders with other journalists, and report on leading edge industry news has placed a big spotlight on The Auto Writer.

Along with success comes opportunity — people want to be associated with a site that has strong traffic and a good following; this site has both. Lately, I have been handling a significant number of advertising and promotional requests, enough to warrant that I post information for everyone to read.

Specifically, I am offering the following tips on how to get noticed on The Auto Writer:

Advertising — a limited number of textual and banner ads can be included on this site. All links are “no follow” and are available in three, six or twelve month increments. Visit my Advertising page on my marketing site for more information.

Promotional — do you have a great product that you want to see promoted on The Auto Writer? I may be interested in reviewing it and posting my findings on this site. However, in exchange for your free review a sample product must be sent to me. I typically charge $150 to $250 per review, but will waive that fee in exchange for keeping the sample.

Please don’t automatically send anything to me, rather click on the Advertising link above to obtain my contact information. If you have something I want to review, then I’ll be in touch with you.

As always, I appreciate everyone who subscribes to the blog, leaves a comments or simply stops by to read what I have to share with you. I promise I won’t litter the site with worthless information or uninteresting product reviews, after all there are many other blogs you can visit besides mine!
