Cadillac, Saturn To Get Diesel Engines
General Motors, scrambling to keep pace with other automakers, has announced that diesel-powered Cadillacs and Saturns will be made available to North American consumers.
According to Autoweek, the same engine planned for the 2008 Opel Vectra will be offered stateside in a bid for GM to keep pace with new offerings from Mercedes, BMW, Honda, and others. Autoweek went on to say:
GM has at least two diesel engines under development. A 4.5-liter V-8 is due in 2010 for light-duty pickups and SUVs. The other engine is a 2.9-liter V-6 being developed with Italy’s VM Motori S.p.A.. The V-6 will be launched in Europe in the 2009 Cadillac CTS, which will later appear in the United States.
Ford and Chrysler are also expected to announce their upcoming diesel offers over the next few months.
