Cadillac CTS Line Up Expands, New SRX Crossover Is A Go

Cadillac CTS Coupe

Lansing, MI Receives Welcome News

General Motors has announced that they are moving forward with plans to expand the Cadillac CTS line up, doubling the highly acclaimed car’s models from two to four. Benefiting from this decision is a assembly plant in Lansing, MI which has been selected to build the CTS coupe and CTS wagon, joining the CTS-V and standard CTS sedan when production begins early next year.

Lansing also builds the larger STS sedan and the SRX crossover, the latter already slated for redesign. Soon thereafter, the STS is also expected to be redesigned, as GM combines that model with the large DTS sedan to create an all-new model.

A Turbo-Diesel Powerplant For The CTS

The Lansing plant will also build a diesel powered CTS for the European market, a model sporting a 2.9L turbo-diesel (pictured), the sort of powerplant favored by many motorists in Europe. GM hasn’t said whether this engine will be made available in the US and Canada when the new models arrive later in the year.

The Cadillac CTS coupe was welcomed with critical acclaim when a concept of the car made its debut at this year’s Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS). Production of a CTS wagon was a recent announcement, a car designed primarily for European buyers while the crossover SRX will serve both markets. GM hasn’t said whether the CTS wagon will be offered in North America.

What, No Ragtop?

Considering that Mercedes, Audi, and BMW each offer convertible versions of their luxury coupes, can a sun-loving fifth CTS model be far behind?

2.9L turbo diesel looks sexy! I would seriously consider getting this if it were made available in the US
