8th Annual LibertyFest Car Show Is Here

When I was a youngster, I enjoyed attending various parades and car events with my family, particularly with my father who was a real pro at naming the make, model, and year of the oldies in attendance. No matter whether it is was a vintage 1937 Packard Fifteenth Series, ’41 Buick Super, or a 1958 Edsel Pacer he seemed to name them correctly. At least that is what other people told me.

This time of the year, parades are in abundance especially as Canada celebrates Canada Day on July 1st and America, Independence Day on July 4th. In Edmond, Oklahoma they are getting a start on their patriotic festivities today when the town hosts LibertyFest, a seven day event running now through the Independence Day holiday.

Kicking things off is the 8th Annual LibertyFest Car Show an event that starts at 9 a.m. and finishes at 3 p.m. Being held at the University of Central Oklahoma campus parking lot on 2nd Street, this event is sure to please.  Admission is free, but if you plan on entering your ride in the show, a $20 entry fee is required.

Expected at the show is a Model-T (this is the 100th anniversary of that model), 1950s era Chevys and T-Birds, and probably a lot of cars you grew up with. Cars will be judged by class and trophies will be awarded to first and runners-up in all classes, plus Best of Show. The first 100 entries will be given a free T-Shirt and a commemorative plaque.

Other events associated with LibertyFest include a rodeo, a Taste of Edmond, concert, parade, and fireworks. So, if you like to celebrate the holiday you can get a jump on the action by taking in a terrific car show today.
