Chrysler and Chery to Hook Up?
DaimlerChrysler has made no bones about their desire to divest itself of The Chrysler Group, essentially calling the late 1990s merger/acquisition a failure. At the same time, as the company awaits for a buyer, DCX is doing its part to enhance the value of Chrysler. One way that DCX is doing just that is allowing Chrysler and China’s Chery Automotive to ink a deal whereby Chery will develop low cost entry level vehicles for the American automaker.
Chery has been trying to bring its products to the U.S. market for more than one year, but the original models proposed have always failed stringent U.S. government safety and crash tests. However, newer models in development are expected to meet these requirements and are likely to be sold in the U.S. under the Dodge brand.
According to a report in the Detroit News, the Chery-Chrysler relationship could grow deeper. Perhaps Chery would be the suitor for Chrysler that DCX desires?
